X-Ray control


The Service offered by Nortech Elettronica includes the use of an X-Ray system, a technique widely used to carry out an inspection or Quality Control that cannot be executed using other technologies.

The aim of the X-Ray analysis is not to intercept faults that are currently problematic, that can be detected using other more productive techniques, but to identify everything which could reduce MTBF (average time between faults) of the components of the Product.


X-Ray System

The X-SCOPE 1800 system used in Nortech was completely designed and produced by a U.S. company, a leader in the X-Ray and Video analysis sector.

The simplicity of use and the rapid programming make this tool suitable for the laboratory and for production, for this reason we are able to satisfy both needs.

The sharpness of the images created due to the direct introduction of digitalisation onto the “detector”, makes the analysis of faults simple and immediate.

Furthermore, the board can be analysed by tilting the detector and the X-ray tube of ±70 degrees thus simulating very useful 3D analysis for detection of the most dangerous faults which are difficult to analyse.

  • Computer controlled variable speed X-Y stage
  • Full featured Image processing CPU with 19 inch LCD flat panel monitor
  • 70 degree tilting tube and detector



Thanks to this technique, our Technicians are able to check the compliance with the IPC 7095 standards as well as the welding of components not only externally but also the internal composition. Calculating the Voids inside the welding or the rising percentage of a welding aspect is no longer an empiric calculation, but an objective dimensional control.

These techniques verify the results obtained after a delicate design phase of the Reflow and Wave welding profiles in compliance with the J-STD-020 standards. The Technical Office uses this test to release the welding profiles to production, and there isn’t  another similar technique to detect possible anomalies.

The Testing system also offers a programming option for production uses, thus rapid tests with prompt analysis of the possible faults can increase the different types of tests applicable to the Boards, choosing and assessing the benefits/costs of their use.

Nortech Elettronica has the equipment and Tools to carry out repairs on faults detected or for any repairs requested. The X-ray system is clearly an important method to verify problems that may have occurred on a Board.

Furthermore, we have “IPC Application Specialist” technicians that are able to analyse and operate in compliance with the IPC-7711 and IPC-7721 standards; therefore repairs are standardised and compliant.

The Rework Etneo 2120A system, with its high range performances, listed below, can be used on any process, also suitable for individual Assemblies of BGA or electronic components where automatized intervention is required and as such, not needing to use dedicated assembly lines.
